I'm a Nobody Who are You? By Emily Dickinson

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us — don't tell!
They'd banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

Pronouns by Karle Wilson Baker

The Lord said,
"Say 'We'";
But I shook my head,
Held my hands tight behind my back, and said,
Stubbornly,
"I"

The Lord Said,
"Say 'We'";
But I looked upon them, grimy and all awry-
Myself in those twisted shapes? Ah, no!
Distastefully I turned my head away
Persisiting,
"They"

The Lord said,
"Say 'We'"
And I,
At last,
Richer by a hoard
Of years and tears
Looked in their eyes and found the heavy word
That bent my neck and bowed my head;
Like a shamed schoolboy then I mumbled low'
"We,
Lord"

Ministries of Mercy, by Tim Keller

I thought you may be interested in this book, "Ministries of Mercy" by Tim Keller! Keller's earlier sermons are very conservative, and most excellent - not sure where he is these days. He is the pastor of Redeemer Presby, New York. Anyway, this book looked like a worthwhile/interesting read.

Timmy's Favourite Book: The Cheese Trap

This picture book has long been a family favourite! It is written by Joy Cowley, a New Zealand author. And we won this book years ago in a Bell Block, New Plymouth , New Zealand Library competition for guessing which author would get the writer's award. It must be out of print to have this price on a second hand copy at Amazon, but if you live in NZ look out for it in second hand book shops. It has a fantastically unusual way of using words and humour, which tickles the fancy of youngsters and us oldies too. A delightful book to read aloud, one of the few you will never tire of reading again and again!

" Once upon a mousetime
two little sqeaks went cheesing...
searching for cheese, strong yellow cheese,
cheese as round as the moon."

The old old grey meow concocts a plan to catch these cheeky squeaks! And then comes Timothy's favourite part.....

"but then the cheese
made her sneeze
A-a-a-a-a-choo
And she blew it!
She really blew it!
The cheese...
the squeaks....
her supper....
She blew then right away"

Audio Books links:

We enjoy audio books as a family as it means I can do something while we are listening to a book together, besides the actual reading. At one stage I managed to get a lot of quilting done this way! I have usually bought CD's and tapes. I will develop a list of our favourites as time goes by. In the mean while I have been recently been recommended these two web sites! So take a nosey with me...

A Book:

A friend sent this peom to me today, I could not say it better myself!

A BOOK
Emily Dickenson

There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress or toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

Which is the best book in the whole wide world?

The Bible of course!
Why?
It was written by God and it is the only such book around!

You can read it for free at http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/browse/

A Book is ...

A really good book that is...

A window to the whole world.
A journey through time.
A chance to catch a glimpse of a new culture...to feel poverty or wealth, sadness and joy and experience a myriad, myriad of things without actually living them.
An opportunity to try out new food!
A once in a life time experience to have a 'world's best teacher' to teach you.
An allowing of your heart to be moved in meditation.
A challenging of your brain to be it's best.
An opening of your heart to tears
A curling up of your soul in comfort.
A relaxing of your body in rest.
An opportunity for a real and life long education -
a rare privilege, a jewel.
A rainy day friend; a friend for the beach or the park or the pool or a sleepless night.
A friend that takes you anywhere you want to go, anytime.
A friend that you take where ever you want to go at the most inconvenient of times.
Your imagination's best friend.
A pathway to make a new friend.

A really good book that is...

This is a must look blog, with only good books

(unless I am critiquing them to warn you not to waste your time and money)

So turn off the TV and make time to READ! This is not a book report blog, it is about savouring some of the best morsels in life!

So gather up your family or your lover, pull a book off a shelf. Or spend a little on buying a new book together. Laugh together, cry together and make memories together.

Need some time out? Then hide away on your own with a good book of course!

Just read.
Read.
Read!

Untill you can read no more...
